Samuel Richard Darnold, a quarterback with the National Football League’s Carolina Panthers, was birth on June 5, 1997. He was taken third overall by the New York Jets in the 2018 NFL Draft while playing college football at USC, where he made history as the first freshman to win the Archie Griffin Award.
In the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft, Darnold was chosen by the New York Jets with the third overall pick. Including a $20 million signing bonus, Darnold and the Jets agreed to a four-year, $30.25 million fully guaranteed contract on July 30, 2018.
In the Jets’ 17-0 preseason opener victory over the Atlanta Falcons on August 10, Darnold made his professional debut. He threw for 96 yards and a score. Darnold was officially announced as the Jets’ opening-week starter on August 29.
As the youngest opening-day starting quarterback since the AFL-NFL merger, Darnold made history on September 10, 2018, when he took the field for his first regular-season game against the Detroit Lions on Monday Night Football.
