On May 18, 1996, Mike Edwards, a safety for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the National Football League, was born. (NFL). In the 2019 NFL Draft, the Buccaneers selected him in the third round after he played college football for Kentucky.
By intercepting a Brett Rypien pass late in the fourth quarter of the Buccaneers’ Week 3 game against the Denver Broncos, Edwards helped his team to a 28-10 victory.
During the New Orleans Saints 30-20 loss in the Divisional Round of the playoffs, Edwards intercepted a pass from Drew Brees. Edwards received his first Super Bowl ring after the Buccaneers defeated the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LV.
Edwards finished with four tackles, three pass deflections, and two interceptions from Matt Ryan that were returned for scores in the 48-25 victory over the Atlanta Falcons in Week 2. For his play in Week 2, Edwards was named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week. On December 2, 2021, Edwards received a fine from the NFL for three games’ worth of COVID-19 infractions, specifically lying about his immunization status.
