
Ifeatu Christian-David Melifonwu, a defensive back with the Detroit Lions of the National Football League, was born on May 2, 1999. He attended Syracuse University and played collegiate football before being selected by the Lions in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft.
In Massachusetts’ Grafton, Melifonwu attended Grafton High School. In high school, he was a wide receiver, running back, and defensive back. Outstandingly talented, Melifonwu also competed in track and field, and basketball, and even played lacrosse for a season. Melifonwu made a commitment to play college football at Syracuse University.
The Detroit Lions selected Melifonwu in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft, 101st overall. On July 23, 2021, Melifonwu signed a four-year rookie contract with Detroit.
After sustaining a thigh injury in Week 2, Melifonwu was put on injured reserve on September 22, 2021. On November 29, he was put into service. Melinfonwu began snaps as a cornerback and safety on June 1, 2022.
