After the Panthers released Josh Norman, defensive coordinator Sean McDermott organized a competition during training camp to choose a new starting cornerback. Bradberry faced off against Robert McClain in the hiring process. Along with seasoned Bené Benwikere, head coach Ron Rivera selected Bradberry as the starting cornerback to open the regular season. He made his professional regular season debut and his first career starts in the Carolina Panthers’ 21-20 loss to the Denver Broncos, recording six combined tackles and a pass deflection. Bradberry had two combined tackles, two pass deflections, and his first career interception off a pass by quarterback Blaine Gabbert in the Panthers’ 46-27 Week 2 victory over the San Francisco 49ers. On October 2, 2016, he had two solo tackles before being injured and leaving the Panthers’ 48-33 loss to the Atlanta Falcons in the second quarter. Bené Benwikere and fellow rookie Daryl Worley, who took over for Bradberry, allowed Julio Jones over 300 yards receiving. In response to the secondary’s embarrassing performance against the Falcons, the Carolina Panthers released their No. 1 cornerback, Benwikere, on October 7, 2016.
