Linsley, a native of Boardman, Ohio, graduated from Boardman High School, where he was named first-team All-Federal League, All-Northeast Ohio, and second-team All-Ohio. As a senior, he was the team captain. He was named to the Midwest Top 30 by SuperPrep.
He lettered all four years in track and field, where he was the regional and league champion as well as a state medalist in the shot put (top throw of 19.24 meters as a senior). He also threw the discus as a senior, with a best throw of 58.27 meters. At Ohio State, he considered switching to track and field instead of football. Linsley was rated as a four-star recruit by Rivals.com and was ranked as the No. 6 offensive guard prospect in his class.
