Aung San Suu Kyi, a 76-year-old Burmese politician, diplomat and author, has been sentenced to prison.
The 1991 Nobel Peace Prize laureate served as State Counsellor of Myanmar and Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2016 to 2021.
She is the daughter of Myanmar’s independence hero, General Aung San – who was assassinated when she was only two years old.
