Sammis Daniel Reyes Martel was born on October 19, 1995. He is a Chilean basketball and gridiron football player. He was the first Chilean to play in the National Football League (NFL). He grew up playing basketball as a national youth team member before moving to the United States at age 14 after receiving an athletic scholarship.
Reyes played college basketball at Hawaii, Palm Beach State, Tulane, and Loyola-New Orleans, where he earned a Master of Business Administration.
Despite being a student in the United States, Reyes continued to play for the Chilean national team. Still, he switched to football after the Chilean national team failed to qualify for the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup. After impressing scouts at a demonstration event, he was accepted into the NFL’s International Player Pathway Program (IPPP) and would sign with the Washington Football Team in 2021.
