Sammis Daniel Reyes Martel (born October 19, 1995) is a Chilean basketball and gridiron football player. He was the first Chilean to play in the National Football League (NFL). He grew up playing basketball as a member of their national team’s youth team before moving to the United States at the age of 14 after receiving an athletic scholarship.

Reyes played college basketball at Hawaii, Palm Beach State, Tulane, and Loyola-New Orleans, where he earned a Master of Business Administration.

Despite being a student in the United States, Reyes continued to play for the Chilean national team but decided to switch to football after the Chilean national team failed to qualify for the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup. After impressing scouts at a demonstration event, he was accepted into the NFL’s International Player Pathway Program (IPPP) and would sign with the Washington Football Team in 2021.

Reyes appeared in a few games on special teams for Washington that season before being released the following year due to injuries.

Sammis Daniel Reyes Martel was born on October 19, 1995, in Talcahuano, a port city in the Chilean metropolitan area of Greater Concepción. Soon after, his family relocated to Santiago, where Reyes grew up playing soccer and basketball with dreams of playing in the NBA.

He joined the Boston College Sports Club, a member of the Liga Nacional de Básquetbol de Chile, at the age of nine, before being recruited to join the Chilean national basketball team two years later. He was a member of the Boston College team that finished second in the 2014 Campioni del Domani, a Chilean basketball tournament for players aged 19 and under.
