Joan Hotchkis was an American actor and playwright. Her career works spanned theater, film, and television. Hotchkis was born in Los Angeles, California, in September of 1927 and was brought up in San Marino.
She developed a passion for acting and drama during her childhood. However, she worked for a time as a nursery school teacher in New York City after earning a Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Bank Street Teacher’s College Smith College.
After a couple of years of working as a teacher, she decided to pursue her long-held dream of becoming an actress.
Hotchkis became a lifelong member of the Actors Studio and the Dramatists Guild. She is famous for her roles in Legacy and for costarring as Dr. Nancy Cunningham on The Odd Couple for several seasons.
She also co-authored the timeless acting guidebook “No Acting Please” with Eric Morris.
