Roger Federer will leave the ATP Tour following the Laver Cup

After suffering from a knee issue for the past three years, the 20-time Grand Slam winner has decided it is time to retire.

The 41-year-old Federer will participate in the Laver Cup, a Ryder Cup-style event that will take place in London early next week, but he will then retire from competitive tennis.

What will Roger Federer do after retirement?

Federer revealed the news in a letter that was shared on social media and started:

(To my tennis family and beyond, the individuals I’ve met along the way, my friends, my rivals, and most importantly the fans who give the sport its life have without a doubt been the greatest gifts tennis has given me over the years).

(As many of you are aware, I have faced difficulties over the past three years as a result of injuries and surgeries. I’ve put a lot of effort into getting back to my best for competition).

(The message my body has been sending me lately is clear, but I am also aware of its potential and limitations).

In the past 24 years, I have participated in approximately 1,500 matches. Tennis has been more kind to me than I could have ever imagined, but now I have to decide whether to call it quits on my competitive career.

However, Federer has been rumored to set up his own business and run it since he is not going to be active in tennis competitions.
