American professional baseball catcher and coachJohn Hardin Stearns was a Major League Baseball catcher and coach who played for the New York Mets from 1975 to 1984 after appearing in one game for the Philadelphia Phillies in 1974.

Stearns was a two-sport standout in college and was drafted in both the Major League Baseball and the National Football League draughts.

 

He was a four-time MLB All-Star who was plagued by injuries in the latter stages of his career.

He returned to baseball in 1989, when he was hired as a scout and minor league instructor by the Milwaukee Brewers.
