The Hero Cup, a brand-new team match-play event on the DP World Tour created to provide European players experience in team golf, will be held at Abu Dhabi Golf Club in January.
The competition, which was revealed on Tuesday, will take place the week before the Rolex Series’ Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship at Yas Links, from January 13 to 15, at Abu Dhabi Golf Club.
Luke Donald, the 2023 European Ryder Cup captain, will choose two 10-man teams made up of golfers from Continental Europe and Great Britain & Ireland after consulting with the respective team captains. The names of the two captains are pending. In Abu Dhabi, Donald will collaborate with both teams.
Foursomes, fourball, and singles matches will all be played within one session of the Hero Cup. Donald made the following comment in a statement made public on Tuesday: “One of the first things I was eager to accomplish when I was appointed as Ryder Cup captain was to reestablish a team match-play tournament to provide future Ryder Cup players, vice-captains, and captains playing and leadership experience.
