Gwyneth passed away at the age of 76, according to her agent Matthew Lacey, who also spoke on behalf of the family in a statement.
He said that she passed away “after complications following a major operation for a perforated colon.”
The statement added: “She passed away peacefully, with her husband (Alan Leith) and niece at her bedside.”
Gwyneth played Bridget McClusky on Grange Hill for ten years, from 1981 to 1991, with her famous character being replaced by Mr Robson, the slightly younger viewers will remember as the head teacher.
