Ex-boxing champion cleared of assaulting ex-girlfriend and stealing her phone

In a fight outside his mother’s house, a former boxing champion was found not guilty of attacking his ex-girlfriend or snatching her iPhone.

During the argument on June 25, 2020, Wadi Camacho, 37, is alleged to have sliced Louise Mitchell’s cheek and threatened to toss her car keys in the toilet. But after an Old Bailey trial, the former cruiserweight, who had previously held the Commonwealth title, was cleared of the charges of assaulting Ms. Mitchell and stealing her iPhone 6S.

Additionally, he was cleared of two counts of violating a non-molestation order by using violence and “threaten[ing], intimidating, harass[ing] or verbally abusing” his ex-partner.
Anthony Joshua’s former sparring partner Camacho acknowledged that they had argued and that he had grabbed his ex-keys partner’s because he was concerned about her operating a vehicle.
He didn’t attack her or take her phone, though, and on Thursday the jury believed him.

According to testimony given in court, the ex-couple typically spoke through Camacho’s mother or another third party, but she had been avoiding them because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Jurors were informed that the boxer personally met Ms. Mitchell on the day of the altercation, and a confrontation resulted.

The court heard that she had arrived at his mother’s house in Oakes Mews, Poplar, east London, with a valid purpose to visit the residence as part of a family agreement.

When Ms. Mitchell called 999 during their argument, Camacho allegedly grabbed her phone, leaving her with a wound that took months to heal.
