Jo Wilson, a SKY Sports broadcaster, has been diagnosed with cervical cancer.
The 37-year-old TV personality disclosed this summer that she was diagnosed with stage 3 cervical cancer and is receiving radiation and chemotherapy treatment.
Jo, a Sky Sports News regular since 2011, spoke out during Gynaecological Cancer Awareness Month to encourage women to get smear tests.
“The last public figure with cervical cancer was Jade Goody,” Jo told OK! magazine.
“After Jade died, more women went for smear tests, but today one in every three women who are eligible does not go.” I truly want to fix it.
“It’s worth coming out if I can save just one other life by being upfront about my struggle.”
Jo, who lives in the Cotswolds with her spouse Dan, 42, and daughter Mabel, two, claimed that when she went for her smear test in June, a gynecologist instantly noticed the indications of cancer.
More testing revealed that the presenter had stage 3b cervical cancer that had spread to two of her lymph nodes.
“I sobbed as a nice nurse held my hand,” she recalled of the moment she learned the awful news.
“I then sobbed to Dan, who was surprised because he didn’t expect it would be cancer.” You’re frantically hoping there’s a chance it might not be.”
