Tom Springfield has passed away at the age of 88. He was an English musician, songwriter, and record producer who was prominent in the 1960s folk and pop music scene.
Is Tom Springfield related to Dusty Springfield?
Tom Springfield was born Dionysius Patrick “Dion” O’Brien as the first child of Gerard and Kathy O’Brien. His father had been raised in British India, and worked as a tax accountant and consultant. On the other hand, his mother came from an Irish family originally from Tralee, County Kerry, which had a number of journalists.
His younger sister, Mary Isabel Catherine Bernadette O’Brien, later became known as Dusty Springfield. She was an English singer whose career spanned over five decades and she was known for her peroxide blonde bouffant and beehive hairstyle, heavy makeup, and evening gowns.
The sibling duo formed the folk-pop vocal trio The Springfields with two of their hits, “Island of Dreams” and “Say I Won’t Be There”, reaching no. 5 in the charts.
