Since 2017, Elizabeth Lynne Cheney has served as the representative for the whole congressional district of Wyoming.
She held roles in the George W. Bush administration, including those of Coordinator for Broader Middle East and North Africa Initiatives and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs.
A foundation dedicated to national security problems called Keep America Safe was created in 2009 by Cheney and Bill Kristol.
One of the most significant figures in the neoconservative wing of the Republican Party, Cheney is regarded as one of the most powerful women in American politics.
She is renowned for putting a strong emphasis on national security, backing the U.S. military, holding hawkish views on global affairs, and being a fiscal and social conservative. Despite opposing the government of Donald Trump’s foreign policy, she voted in favor of its overall program.
Cheney backed Donald Trump’s second impeachment for his involvement in the Capitol building invasion in 2021.
In February 2021, members of the House Republican Conference’s pro-Trump Freedom Caucus attempted to have her removed as party leader.
She has declared her intention to be “the leader, one of the leaders, in a fight to help restore our party” and hinted that a presidential run in the future would be of interest to her.
Her job as the representative for the Wyoming district ended when Harriet Hageman defeated her in August 2022.
