Sergio Gomez will probably be Manchester City’s final acquisition this summer, according to Pep Guardiola.
The defending Premier League champions have been looking for a new left-back all summer and tried to recruit Marc Cucurella from Brighton, but Chelsea ultimately won the bidding due to their refusal to match the Seagulls’ asking price.
While all of this was going on, City signed Anderlecht’s 21-year-old Gomez in a deal, intending to loan him out for the upcoming season.
However, after failing to locate a suitable replacement, City decided to keep Gomez.
In a news conference, Guardiola said, (The moment we couldn’t proceed with Cucurella because the club decided we wouldn’t pay this amount of money for this player, I said ‘right’, think about the concept we had to loan Sergio.)
(We took time to observe him more. I advised them to buy him since Sergio met all of their requirements price, young player, and desire), Pep added.
To replace the vacuum left by Oleksandr Zinchenko’s departure for Arsenal this summer, Pep Guardiola paid out for the 21-year-old.
Zinchenko switched to the Gunners after being convinced to do so by Gabriel Jesus, a fellow former City star.
In an effort to play regularly for the first team, both celebrities chose the Emirates.
