Two weeks after being assaulted by teammates and spectators during a game over what appeared to be a dispute about a referee call, a 29-year-old soccer player passed away.
Police reported that Misael Sanchez of Port Hueneme, California, was hurt at the Oxnard High School soccer field “after he was involved in a huge soccer battle that involving players from both teams and onlookers.”
On July 10, at 11 a.m., several persons attacked Sanchez, and first responders discovered him to be unresponsive and not breathing. He was taken to Ventura County Medical Center while in critical condition.
On Monday, Sanchez passed away. His cause of death hasn’t been established yet.
It wasn’t immediately clear if Sanchez’s knocked out due to the wounds he received in the brawl. He didn’t appear to have any visible injuries, police Cmdr. Alex Arnett said to NBC News on Tuesday.
His autopsy was supposed to be performed by the county medical examiner’s office on Tuesday.
Berlin According to authorities, Jose Melgara, 46, has been detained and charged with criminal violence in relation to the fatal beating.
Authorities think other persons, though, were involved in Sanchez’s death.
