Authorities in Wood County are perplexed by a couple’s death

Investigators in Wood County are baffled as to what resulted in the death of an elderly woman and the hospitalization of her husband on Monday night.

The house where Marguerite Gray, 79, and her husband Ronald Gray, 78, resided in the unincorporated settlement of Washington Bottom in Wood County, was where their remains were discovered.

When family members inquired about the couple after not hearing from them for a while, a neighbor uncovered the horrifying discovery.

When Ronald arrived at WVU Medicine Camden Clark in Parkersburg, the woman had already passed away. It is uncertain how he is doing.

According to Wood County Chief Deputy Mike Deem, there were no indications of wrongdoing and no instant evidence that would indicate a cause of death.

The state Medical Examiner’s office has received Marguerite’s body to conduct an autopsy in an effort to ascertain the cause of death.

Since the house was entirely electric and had no natural gas or propane service, carbon monoxide has been ruled out as a cause.
