According to reports, Chelsea has contacted Inter Milan about a potential transfer for Denzel Dumfries. The Blues have been keeping an eye on the 26-year-old right-back for some time, and if Jules Kounde doesn’t sign, they might make a move.
Kounde now appears destined to join Barcelona, despite Chelsea’s £55 million bid for the defender being accepted by Sevilla.
According to speculations, this prompted Chelsea to inquire about Dumfries’ availability with Inter setting their asking price at £34 million. The Dutchman joined Inter for £12.5 million last year, and according to reports, Chelsea will attempt to negotiate a reduction in Inter’s asking price before making a bid in the course of this week.
Due to their financial situation, Inter would prefer to keep Dumfries but would be willing to sell for the right price.
Thomas Tuchel is prepared to part ways with Kounde, so talks between the two clubs are expected to continue.
It’s possible that the German intends to play Dumfries at right wing-back while moving Reece James to central defense, a position he occasionally filled at the end of the previous campaign.
Interestingly, Manchester United is also interested in Dumfries but must first sell Aaron Wan-Bissaka in order to sign the Dutch international.
