Nuno Tavares, a left back for Arsenal, is on the verge of agreeing a loan deal with Napoli as the 22-year-old is slipping down the pecking order at the Emirates.
In place of an injured Kieran Tierney on the left side of defense, the Portuguese player made 28 appearances in all competitions last season but was not very effective.
Being somewhat of a liability in defense, Mikel Arteta moved to buy the versatile Oleksandr Zinchenko from Manchester City this summer.
Zinchenko can play in midfield and fill in for Tierney when he is injured.
Due to this, Tavares is unable to play for the first team and must look elsewhere for consistent playing time.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio of Sky Sport, Napoli and the former Benfica player are close to reaching a loan agreement. It appears likely that they will sign him for the upcoming season.
Arteta urged Arsenal supporters to support Tavares rather than criticize him during a mistake-filled performance against Manchester United in April.
