Sam Kerr of Chelsea will be the first female player to appear on the global Fifa football game cover, according to EA Sports.
On the cover of Fifa 23, the Australian will appear alongside Kylian Mbappe of France and Paris St. Germain.
As the highest scorer in the Women’s Super League in 2021–2022, Kerr was awarded the Golden Boot.
Last season, she contributed to Chelsea’s WSL and FA Cup victories with her 20 WSL goals.
For the 2021–22 season, Kerr earned the PFA Players’ Player of the Year and Football Writers’ Association (FWA) awards.
Only regional covers have included female athletes; the North American editions of Fifa 16, which featured the first women’s teams, featured Americans Alex Morgan and Christine Sinclair with Argentina star Lionel Messi.
As its association with the body that governs international football is set to end, this year’s version of the game will be the last Fifa-branded one produced by EA Sports.
