Gotytom Gebreslase is an Ethiopian long-distance runner. She was born on January 15, 1995. Gotytom emerged the winner of the 2021 women’s race at the Berlin Marathon, Berlin, Germany. This was also her marathon debut and came as the eighth fastest women’s time in the history of the race. Gebreslase ran the 2022 Tokyo Marathon and finished third in a time of 2 hours, 18 minutes, and 18 seconds.
In the 2011 World Youth Championships, she won the gold medal in the girls’ 3000 meters athletics event held in Lille Metropole, France. She also won the bronze medal in the women’s 5000 meters event at the 2012 African Championships in Athletics held in Porto Novo, Benin. During the 2022 marathon, Gotytom after biding her time and picking her spot, the well-determined Ethiopian closed the marathon in style and by a distance, setting a new World Championships record in the process.
