Ryan Crouser is an American shot putter and discus thrower who is a two-time Olympic gold medalist and Olympic record holder. He is also the reigning consecutive two-time Olympic champion.
Is Ryan Crouser related to Dean Crouser?
Ryan Crouser was born into a family of athletes, so it came as no surprise when he ultimately took up the sport. His father, Mitch Crouser, was an alternate on the 1984 Olympic discus team.
His uncles, Dean Crouser and Brian Crouser are also throwers. Dean Crouser is the middle child of his brother.
He, like the rest of his family, attended the University of Oregon on a track scholarship. He had an elbow injury which he withheld till after his enrollment. He was told by his coaches to forget about the javelin and concentrate on the shot put and discus.
At the university, he won the NCAA championship in the 16-pound shot put and discus as a 6-foot-5, 255-pound junior.
