Lourdes Grobet was married. She got married to Xavier Perez Barba in 1962 but the marriage did not hold and they got divorced in the year 1974. It is unclear whether she remarried or not. She and her ex-husband Xavier had 4 children together.

She was born and raised by her parents in Mexico City. She studied painting at the Academy of San Carlos.

Her parents were dissatisfied with the school’s viewpoints and sent her to work for a Catholic professor called José Suárez Olvera, who painted murals for the Church of San Francisco.

She disliked his work because she thought it lacked uniqueness.

Grobet said, “Looking around, and after asking myself the necessary questions about what art is, it became evident that for me it was a language, a method of saying things, and so I had to find the greatest way of saying them,”.

She passed away on July 15, 2022, 10 days away from her 82nd birthday. She is survived by her 4 children.
