Bramwell Tovey, British conductor, composer, principal conductor and artistic director of the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra, has passed away at the age of 69.
The Executive director, David Beauchesne said
“We are all heartbroken. “Bramwell Tovey was a dear friend and colleague, and a person of uncommon ability, warmth, humor, sincerity and kindness. The youngest student and most revered guest artist recieved the same level of his care and attention. His death is a profound loss to our organization and community, and to musicians and audiences around the globe.”

He was diagnosed with a rare form of sarcoma in May 2019. He later underwent surgery at Dana Farber in Boston in June 2021 which briefly left him cancer free.
However, in January 2022, scans confirmed a re-occurrence which he was unable to recover from.
Tovey is survived by his wife Lana and his three children, including his son Ben who is a former guitarist for the now split-up metal band Rise To Remain.
