Bramwell Tovey, OC OM was a conductor and composer from the United Kingdom who died on July 11, 2022.

Tovey was involved with a number of music-related television and radio shows until his natural death.

He conducted Cinderella with Scottish Ballet for ITV, Daphnis et Chloé for Channel 4, and two BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra television programs.

He has four honorary doctorates to his name: Winnipeg (1994), Manitoba (1999), Kwantlen University College (2004), and the University of British Columbia. He was a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Music in London, England, and an honorary Fellow of the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto (2006).

Tovey made his theatrical debut in an opera in October 2016, as The Impresario in the City Opera of Vancouver premiere of the farce ‘The Lost Operas of Mozart’ at Christ Church Cathedral.

Tovey made his Sarasota Orchestra debut in the 2019-2020 season, prior to the COVID-19 epidemic.

The Sarasota Orchestra announced the hiring of Tovey as its new music director in August 2021, beginning with the 2022-2023 season and lasting four years. He was supposed to become music director-designate on September 1, 2021.
