A federal judge declined on Monday, July 11 2022 to further delay the upcoming trial of Steve Bannon.
Steve Bannon was once an adviser to former President Donald Trump. The former president currently faces contempt charges after refusing for months to cooperate with the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 insurrection.
Bannon is still slated to go on trial next week although he tells the House Committee on Saturday, July 9 2022 that he is now prepared to testify. It’s uncertain whether Bannon will again dismiss appearing before the committee with the trial pending.
Bannon had been one of Donald Trump’s trusted allies dated way back. As of now, Bannon is still refusing to testify before the committee. This had led to two criminal counts of contempt of Congress last year for resisting the committee’s subpoena.
Trump had fired Bannon from the White House in 2017 and Bannon was thus a private citizen when he was consulting with the then-president in the run-up to the riot on Jan. 6, 2021.
