Bernie Ecclestone expected to face asset fraud charges

Following an inquiry into overseas assets estimated to be worth more than £400 million, Bernie Ecclestone will be charged with fraud by false representation.

The Crown Prosecution Service authorized the charge against the 91-year-old veteran F1 executive, and they also stated that there are currently ongoing criminal procedures.

“The CPS has reviewed a file of evidence from HMRC and has authorized a charge against Bernard Ecclestone of fraud by false representation in respect to his failure to declare to HMRC the existence of assets held overseas believed to be worth in excess of £400 million,” said chief crown prosecutor Andrew Penhale.

The Crown Prosecution Service wants to remind everyone involved that there are currently active criminal proceedings against this individual and that they are entitled to a fair trial.

The probe, according to HMRC’s Simon York, was “complicated and international.”

On August 22, 2022 the matter will be heard at Westminster Magistrates’ Court.
