According to local and federal authorities, a man brandishing a rifle and a knife was apprehended by police early on Wednesday near Brett M. Kavanaugh’s Maryland home after making threats against the Supreme Court justice.
According to federal prosecutors, Nicholas John Roske, 26, of Simi Valley, California, was charged with trying to assassinate a Supreme Court judge after he allegedly called the police to report having suicidal thoughts and wanting to kill a particular justice.
A man was detained close to Kavanaugh’s home after making “threats against Justice Kavanaugh,” according to a statement from Supreme Court spokeswoman Patricia McCabe.
The affidavit does not specify which justice Roske was threatening. No one from Roske’s family could be reached.
The Supreme Court’s ruling is anticipated this month or in the first part of July.
Attorney General Merrick Garland condemned any violence against Supreme Court judges when asked about the incident that occurred close to Kavanaugh’s house on Wednesday.
