Paul who was a legend of the Hawthorn passed away at age 55. The winner of the Norm Smith Medal in the 1991 championship game fought pancreatic cancer for two years.
On Saturday morning, Hawthorn issued a formal statement confirming the information.
The statement read, “Hawthorn Football Club is profoundly grieved to learn the passing of premiership player Paul Dear. The club sends its deepest sympathies to Paul’s loved ones.
He was a devoted spouse and the happy father of four kids, whom he adored dearly. Throughout a nine-year career from 1987 to 1996, Paul played 123 games for Hawthorn.
His contribution to the Hawks’ championship triumph on Grand Final Day in 1991 is debatably his best moment while wearing the brown and gold.
Paul led an incredible comeback after being down at halftime, collecting 26 disposals, and kicking two goals in a performance that won him the Norm Smith Medal.
“After retiring from football, Paul continued to inspire people by valiantly fighting pancreatic cancer after being diagnosed with it in 2020.
Through tenacity and commitment, Paul and his family took charge of their journey and launched the Dare to Hope campaign, which raises money and awareness for those affected by pancreatic cancer.
