Joel Giambra, a former Republican Erie County Executive, has abandoned the Republican Party outright and postponed his run for the state Senate of New York. Giambra stated in an email to friends and supporters that he could no longer call himself a Republican or continue with his campaign for the Republican nomination for senator in the 61st District.
Giambra launched his first run for office in February with support from the Erie County Republican Party. He cited the support of several Reublican officials who continue to back the NRA following yet another mass shooting support Donald Trump as the president of the United States of America as reasons for leaving the party.
This occurs shortly after New Hampshire state representative William Marsh left the GOP for the Democratic Party, blaming the party’s support of anti-vaccine propaganda for his decision.
A number of Pennsylvania Republicans are preparing to oppose far-right contender Doug Mastriano by endorsing Democratic Attorney General Josh Shapiro for governor.
