Reports reaching us indicate that Ons Jabeur, the prolific Tunisian professional tennis player has made history by becoming the first African woman to reach a Grand Slam final at Wimbledon.
The Tunisian managed to defeat tough opponent Tatjana Maria in an engaging semi-final clash.
She will face the winner of the second semi-final clash between Simona Halep and Elena Rybakina in the final slated for Saturday, July 9, 2022.
Jabeur has already written her name in the history books already by getting to the final but she will have the opportunity to deepen it more if she wins the ultimate.
Her comments after making history with the qualification stated, “I’m a proud Tunisian woman standing here today.
“I try to inspire as much as possible.”
“I want to see more Tunisian, Arab, and African women on the tour.”
Jabeur and Maria were rivals on the court during the game but resumed their close friendship immediately after the game.
The two exchanged a warm hug at the net amid applause from the crowd.
