Mike Cowan was born in Winslow, Maine, and went on to become a multi-sport athlete at Lawrence High School in Fairfield.
After graduating from high school in 1966, he went on to attend William Penn College in Oskaloosa, Iowa, where he played for its golf team.
Prior to becoming a caddie, he was an assistant pro at a country club in Maine. He was later inducted into the Maine Golf Hall of Fame in 2005.
Cowan is a 40-year tour veteran and is known as one of the best caddies.
He has experience caddying for Ed Sabo from 1976 to 1978, Peter Jacobsen from 1978 to 1996, Tiger Woods from 1996 to 1999, and Jim Furyk since 1999.
Cowan is currently married to his wife Jennifer and they live in nearby Rockville with their daughter, Bobbie. In addition, he is a member of the Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland
