He was a patron, president, or member of over 780 organizations, including the World Wide Fund for Nature, and chaired The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, a youth rewards program for adults aged 14 to 24.
He resigned from royal responsibilities on August 2, 2017, at the age of 96, after completing 22,219 solo engagements and 5,493 speeches since 1952. Philip died two months before his 100th birthday on April 9, 2021.
