Although no cause of death has been disclosed, Philip was known to suffer from emphysema.

This is partly owing to pneumonia he contracted as a child.

Because of his health, Philip could only film for a few minutes at a time near the conclusion of his career.

Tributes to the Hollywood veteran flooded in after word of his death spread through social media on Monday.

“”Philip Baker Hall should have won an Emmy for portraying Lt. Joe Bookman, library cop,” one fan wrote on Twitter, while another added, “Philip Baker Hall should have won an Emmy for playing Lt. Joe Bookman, library cop.” RIP.”

From 1977 to his death, the late actor made more than 200 guest appearances on numerous television shows.
