A Canadian-American actor, comedian, playwright, and graphic designer, Philip Edward Hartman (né Hartmann; born September 24, 1948 – May 28, 1998) passed away in 1998.

He joined The Groundlings 1975, a comedic troupe, where he assisted Paul Reubens in creating the role of Pee-wee Herman. In addition to serving as Captain Carl on Reubens’ Pee-Playhouse, wee’s Hartman co-wrote the movie Pee-Big wee’s Adventure.
