RaDonda Vaught is a former Vanderbilt University Medical Center nurse who was found guilty on two counts in the death of Charlene Murphey, a 75-year-old woman to whom she gave the wrong prescription in December 2017. Vaught admitted to her mistake saying, “I know the reason this patient is no longer here is because of me,” Vaught said, starting to cry. “There won’t ever be a day that goes by that I don’t think about what I did.”

The sentencing hearing is slated for May 13, 2022. Vaught faces three to six years in prison for gross neglect and one to two years for criminally negligent homicide. Vaught has been released on bail until she is sentenced. She stated that she had not yet decided whether or not to file an appeal.
