The founder and global head pastor of Hillsong Church, Brian Houston, has reportedly stepped away from his pastoring duties due to what the church refers to as a breach of code of conduct.
What is the Hillsong controversy about?
Briain Houston has been charged with concealing the crime of another. The court charges were in relation to his father, Frank Houston’s sexual assault of decades ago.
After an investigation on his father’s sexual abuse, it was revealed that the global leader of Hillsong, Brian Houston was in knowledge of what his father was doing but refused to report him to the police.
In a statement released by Brian, he stated that it of his best interest and that of the church he steps aside from all ministry responsibilities until the end of the year.
What happened to the Hillsong pastor?
The Hillsong song board in a statement published on Friday revealed that Brian Houston has been under investigation by the church.
One of the issues the church investigated was from 2013. Brian Houston allegedly sent an “inappropriate message” to a staff member which led the staff member to resign.
Also, the other issue happened in 2019 during Hillsong church’s annual conference.
It was reported that pastor Brain Houston ended up in the room of a woman who was not a member of the church.
Even though the woman said there was no sexual activity, Brain claimed he was in her room for forty minutes.
Brian Houston has compensated both women and the church’s board has said “pastor Brian was extremely remorseful” for his actions.
Brain Charles Houston and his wife, Bobbie Houston founded the Hillsong Sydney Church in 2001.
