Special aide and spokesperson on behalf of Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has alleged an attempt by some 5 cellmates within the Nsawam prisons to poison Chairman Wontumi.
Mr Boakye Danquah made these allegations on Tuesday, October 27, in an interview with Omanhene, the morning show host on Owia TV. According to the spokesperson, Chairman Wontumi became aware of the attempted plot on his life through another inmate who overheard some conversations between the five people involved.
According to the spokesperson, they are in touch with the prison authorities to investigate the allegations and bring finality to the matter. He also stated that, although he hasn’t received any medical report from the doctors, Chairman Wontumi is very ok.
The spokesperson has raised concerns on the safety of Mr Boasiako and has called for an expedited hearing of his bail application by the Highcourt on November 4.
The embattled former Ashanti regional chairman of the New Patriotic Party was sentenced to serve 20 years in prison with hard labor in July by Justice Audrey Kocuvie-Tay after he was found guilty in the case of Republic vs Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi).
