President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has appointed Mr. Kwasi Agyei, the Deputy Controller and Accountant General (CAG), as the acting Controller and Accountant General for the Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD). This decision was made following the resignation of Mr. Kwasi Kwaning-Bosompem. Mr. Agyei officially assumed his new role on April 15, 2024.
During a brief handing-over ceremony at the Treasury Head Office, the former Controller and Accountant-General, Mr. Kwaning-Bosompem, expressed his satisfaction with the appointment of Mr. Agyei from within the department. He acknowledged the hard work, dedication, and integrity demonstrated by Mr. Agyei and stated that this appointment would motivate the staff of the Department.
Mr. Kwaning-Bosompem extended his gratitude to President Akuffo-Addo, the Head of Service, Public Service Commission Chairman, and all staff of the Department for their support during his tenure. He urged the staff to extend the same support to the new acting CAG, Mr. Agyei.
In his response, Mr. Agyei thanked Mr. Kwaning-Bosompem for his exceptional leadership and the opportunity to learn under his guidance. He also expressed appreciation to President Nana Akuffo Addo and the Minister for Finance, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, for entrusting him with this responsibility.
Mr. Agyei, a seasoned Chartered Accountant with over 20 years of experience in the public sector, holds various professional qualifications, including ACCA and membership in the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana. He brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having served in key financial positions in different organizations.
As the new acting CAG, Mr. Agyei acknowledged the challenges ahead and highlighted the importance of the support and dedication of all staff of the Department. He emphasized his commitment to fulfilling his responsibilities effectively.
Mr. Agyei’s impressive credentials include a Master of Science (MSc) Degree in Accounting and Finance, an International Master of Business Administration (MBA), and a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) Degree in Accounting and Economics. He has also served on various boards and held significant positions in the public sector, showcasing his extensive experience and expertise in financial management.
