The administrator of the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC), Prince Ofosu Sefah, recently led a team on an inspection tour of various GIFEC sites in the Eastern Region. The objective of this visit, which took place on April 4, 2024, was to ensure effective oversight and to improve the sustainability of GIFEC projects.

During the tour, Sefah and his team visited the J.B. Danquah Memorial Library and ICT Centre in Kyebi. They interacted with visually impaired citizens who were undergoing training in computer basics. Sefah encouraged the trainees to make the most of their training and discussed ways to enhance and expand the program for the benefit of more visually impaired individuals.

Accompanied by the Kwahu South Municipal Chief Executive, Emmanuel Atta-Ofori Sr., Sefah also inspected the GIFEC Cyberlab at Obo Presbyterian Primary and Junior High School. He engaged with the school officials to discuss ways to maintain the computer workstations and accessories for the community’s benefit.

The tour also included a visit to the Obomeng Community ICT Centre, where the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) will renovate the facility as part of the Digital Transformation Centres (DTC) Initiative. Sefah encouraged the centre manager and staff to maintain the ICT lab effectively.

In his interactions with the Obomeng queen mother and other officials, Sefah highlighted GIFEC’s collaboration with technical partners to conclude the Ghana Rural Telephony and Digital Inclusion Project (GRT&DIP) this year. The project aims to establish 1,006 additional sites, bringing the total under the Nana Akufo-Addo government to 2,600 sites.

The administrator also visited GIFEC CyberLabs in Kwahu Asakraka and Bepong, where he engaged with participants and school officials on recent training programs. He emphasized the importance of continuous learning and promised to deliver more training in the communities to benefit citizens.
