Togbe Afede XIV, the Agbogbomefia of Asogli, has declared his readiness to take the role of a running mate should it be extended by John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), according to the Asogli State Council.
According to a news release the Council sent on Tuesday, February 13, the respected leader expressed this opinion when a group called “Change Forum Makers” visited to talk about the subject.
The announcement claimed that Togbe Afede XIV emphatically stated that he was ready to serve the country and that he would seize any chance to do so.
Togbe Afede XIV, however, added that Mr. Mahama is free to choose his running mate and that no one else has the right to sway or control his choice.
The Council also made it clear that Togbe Afede has not given any person or organization instructions to promote his candidacy as Mr. Mahama’s running mate.
“The most recent group to approach Togbe about running alongside President Mahama in the 2024 presidential contest was the ‘Change Makers Forum.'”
“Togbe replied that he would not turn down any opportunity to serve his country as a patriotic citizen, but the flagbearer, who already knows him well, has the right to choose a running mate.”
The announcement was made in reaction to previous rumors that suggested Togbe Afede might compete as John Mahama’s running mate in the 2024 presidential contest.
