On February 13, 2024, the Akyem Abuakwa traditional council will hear a hearing from Begoro’s Ankobeahene, Bafour Owiredu Agyarko Minta II, regarding his endorsement of National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer John Dramani Mahama.
Nana Owiredu Agyarko Minta II is summoned by the traditional council secretary, D M Ofori-Atta, to appear before the council and give an explanation for his actions.
The summons were issued on behalf of petitioners, namely Daasebre Ofosu Kwabi Ayebiahwe, Otweresohene or Odau, and Okyeame Owusu. Nana Owiredu Agyarko is accused of engaging in partisan politics, which has caused disrepute and ridicule for the Begoro stool name.
The petitioners claimed that Nana Owiredu Agyarko made partisan political remarks favoring the NDC while claiming to speak for Nananom and the people of Begoro at a campaign event that John Mahama attended.
Declaring that the people of Begoro will be lifted out of poverty by the NDC government’s 24-hour economic policy and endorsing John Mahama as the incoming president. Additionally, it is mentioned that all Nananom have prayed to the gods in protest of the New Patriotic Party government’s violation of its eight-mantra, according to the petitioners.
Begoro residents are urged to exercise caution in opposition to the current government’s plan to manipulate votes, and it is purported that the NDC’s parliamentary candidate was defeated in the last election through questionable tactics. Ultimately, the petition concluded, “The people of Begoro are encouraged to vote massively for the NDC candidate in the upcoming election.”
An order of destoolment as Ankobeahene of Begoro, a declaration nullifying the respondent’s conduct, a public apology to the petitioners and the people of Begoro, an unqualified apology, and punitive customary sanctions, if found liable, are among the reliefs sought by the petitioners.
The summons requires Nana Owiredu Agyarko Minta II to pay a hearing fee of GHC1,000.00 and make an unwavering appearance before Nananom, along with any witnesses.
