John Dramani Mahama, the former president, has urged the government to launch an immediate resettlement program for the victims of the recent Akosombo dam spill.

Speaking during the kickoff of Phase 2 of the resettlement initiative led by the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Mahama underlined the urgency of acting quickly to alleviate the situation facing the impacted individuals and families.

He voiced his displeasure with the government’s slow response to the tragedy, which resulted in the victims being ignored for five months.

The former president claimed that more might have been done by the government to help the displaced people and give them support as they tried to reconstruct their lives following the disaster.

Mahama also demanded that the Speaker of Parliament form a bipartisan committee to look into the incident and its effects in detail.

This action seeks to pinpoint the incident’s primary causes and develop all-encompassing solutions to stop it from happening again.

Over 12,000 people have lost their houses and means of subsistence as a result of the Akosombo Dam Spillage, according to reports from the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO).

Former President Mahama underlined how critical it is to put the victims’ welfare first and give them the assistance they need to start over.

In order to guarantee that those impacted by the leakage receive the support they need to recover from its catastrophic effects, he called on the government to mobilize resources and expedite the resettlement process.
