The 33.4km Ofankor-Nsawam Road Project’s chief resident engineer, Kwabena Bempong, has stated that construction is around 50% finished and will proceed according to plan.

The portion of the Accra-Kumasi road network that is being worked on is scheduled to be completed in July 2024 after two years of work that started in 2022.

For the communities in the Ga West Municipal Assembly, particularly Pokuase, Amasaman, Medie, and Sarpeiman, among others, the stretch functions as a significant arterial road.

Additionally, it is a crucial conduit for transit freight traveling from Ghana’s ports to Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger, the country’s neighboring landlocked nations, as well as for trade between those nations.

During an inspection trip, Mr. Bempong addressed Kwasi Amoako-Atta, the Minister of Roads and Highways, and stated that the project was proceeding according to plan and that the contractor was on track to finish it on schedule.

“Presently, our progress is about 50 per cent and we are hoping that by the end of the year, we would have substantially completed it,” he said.

The Chief Resident Engineer provided specifics of the work completed thus far, stating that a significant amount of concrete work had been completed, suggesting that the construction of foot bridges was roughly 50% finished.

He also stated that work on the three-tier interchange at Nsawam was 20% finished, and that they were currently finishing the two overpasses and an underpass at Medie, Pobiman, and Amasaman.
