Mohammed Kudus was deeply disappointed after being named Man of the Match in their dramatic 2-2 draw with Mozambique in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.
Kudus was disappointed that Mozambique’s incredible late comeback, which resulted in a draw, took center stage despite his outstanding performance.
He told reporters, “I’m very disappointed; we really wanted this victory, but it wasn’t to be. It’s a big disappointment for us.” he lamented.
Ghana’s chances of winning were dashed despite Kudus’s outstanding performance, as Mozambique’s late rally claimed victory.
The West Ham star blamed a lack of focus for Ghana’s inability to hold their two-goal advantage, which was a similar problem against Egypt.
Kudus reflected on the philosophical side of the game and acknowledged Ghana’s overall skill in the tournament, saying, “We showed lots of qualities here but losing focus at the end cost us,” despite the loss.
Kudus’ remarkable exploits were a bright spot in Ghana’s difficult AFCON campaign, but the disappointment of the draw persisted. Despite being selected man of the match, the emerging star found little comfort in the individual distinction.
