The Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) Disciplinary Board imposed a $15,000 punishment on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for crowd disturbances during the Africa Cup of Nations match between Ghana and Cape Verde on January 14, 2024.
According to a Safety and Security official, there was a conflict between two Ghanaian supporter groups at halftime in Stand Number 18, which was accompanied by the use of tear gas.
The Disciplinary Board adopted this conclusion after thoroughly reviewing the facts, allegations, legal arguments, and evidence provided during the hearings. The GFA has been given 60 days to settle the fine.
In response, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) released a statement advising Ghanaians living in Cote D’Ivoire to behave honorably while supporting the Black Stars.
To stop similar situations in the future, the GFA also promised to work with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, which is in charge of organizing the fans’ travel to the competition, and the heads of supporter groups.
