Fumes were discovered in the cockpit of a British Airways flight that was making an emergency landing on its way from London to Prague. On Sunday, the aircraft took off from Heathrow Airport at 7:25 am, and it was expected to arrive in Prague shortly after 10 am.
However, according to FlightRadar24’s flight path data, it changed direction and headed back to the UK about thirty minutes into the journey, over the Strait of Dover. At 8:41 a.m., the aircraft made a second landing at Heathrow.
Several fire engines arrived on the site shortly after the airplane touched down. An official with British Airways explained the sudden change of direction as a result of a “technical issue,” but they did not elaborate on what specifically went wrong to cause the pilots to decide to head back to Heathrow.
”We apologize for the delay in our customers’ travel after the aircraft returned to Heathrow as a precaution,” a British Airways statement read. While they waited to board a different flight to continue their journey, our workers took care of them.
The event occurs after the airline had to cancel over thirty flights from Heathrow on Sunday due to Storm Isha. Due to high winds at Heathrow yesterday, a British Airways flight was unable to land.
Before it could land, the pilot was forced to take off once more and circle numerous times. FlightRadar24 data showed that on Sunday, a number of flights had to alter their route.
According to the New York Post, a JetBlue Airbus A321 headed for California stopped taking off on the runway at John F. Kennedy Airport a few days ago due to allegations of a fire aboard.
The flight crew reported the issue to the control tower at approximately 8:30 p.m., when the incident happened as the aircraft was about to take off, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
